An Active Takeover

I've begun to notice a slight change in the gym atmosphere. It seems that as I walk around the gym, I'm no longer noticing surrounded by the typical t-shirt and Adidas soccer shorts, but something a bit more stylish. Gym goers, and non-goers, for that matter, are starting to acquire a whole workout wardrobe- complete with an array of bright colors and flattering pieces.
Brands like Nike and Under Armour have successfully taken advantage of this developing phenomenon. It is not just the clothes that active people are proud of, but the lifestyle. Both women and men have taken notice to the positive influences that a healthy workout schedule have on their life and brands are capitalizing on it.  It is the same concept as carrying a designer bag- if you have one, you are part of the "in" crowd.

Athletic-inspired clothing has also infiltrated into the haute-couture clothing lines, including Chanel and Dior. In the Spring 2014 Haute Couture Shows, Chanel paired their lacey, translucent, pastel-colored line with some sporty sneakers- featured on every single model. Dior also featured sporty looks by pairing their line with sneakers and sporty footwear. This kind of trend is known as the "trickle up" theory. The average person's everyday lifestyle begins to make trends of its own and the phenonmenon "trickles up" to be copied and mimicked by high-end designers. I think this is what is so great about fashion- inspiration can be found anywhere.
