VCU Homecoming: The-Re-Up x Not So Billionaire Girls Club

This fall, the Not So Billionaire Girls club will be collaborating with our good friend Merid Merid from to help promote and sponsor VCU's Homecoming 2015. This year's theme is "Be Herd" which goes hand-in-hand with our blog's concept of self-expression and creativity through clothing. NotSoBGC and The-Re-Up will have a table at VCU's pep rally on November 9th in which we will have a street style clothing contest. Contestants will be judged based on how well they wear VCU apparel and colors in their own creative way. The first place winner will receive two FREE concert tickets to VCU's homecoming concert featuring PartyNextDoor, Rae Sremmurd, JMSN, and Bad Rabbits. Second place winner will receive a $15 gift card to Chipotle! Another $15 Chipotle gift card will be given to the contestant with the best street style outfit. In addition, one contestant will be chosen to have a "Lookbook Spotlight" on The Not So Billionaire Girls Club Blog. See you guys on November 9th!!

Sex in the City: Two Ways To Do It

So, here it is. The post I promised would make you feel like you are right in the middle of a scene from Sex in the City. I've been dying to put this tutu on but I felt it deserved more than just being thrown into a mediocre lookbook in Richmond. I knew after buying this piece, I would have to keep it tucked away till it was time to pack for my anticipated two months in the big city. The second Ali and I decided to plan our first individual lookbook here in New York, I immediately was inspired by this pink mess of layered tulle. As Ali previously mentioned, I live in a teeny tiny box that New Yorkers like to call an apartment here in the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Don't get me wrong, its a beautiful location right across from Central Park (which can be seen effortlessly from my building's rooftop) but words such as spacious and large will never be used to describe my cute Manhattan apartment. We decided to explore familiar streets since the setting and vibe of the area I reside in was nothing less than perfect for the look I chose to create.

I decided it would only make sense to show you guys two different ways to do the tutu since it can sometimes be a pretty difficult piece of clothing to wear. It does take an initial wave of confidence to dedicate to a pink, girly tutu; especially, when you feel most comfortable in your newest sneaks, a Calvin Klein sports bra, and active leggings like me. But, I promise if you do the tutu right, it will make you feel like you're on top of the world. For my first look, we decided to take a stroll through Central Park and stop at any location we felt could cater to my extremely feminine yet ironically tomboy-ish attire. The best part about Look #1 was that ideally, I could have transitioned from my favorite pair of boyfriend jeans into this tutu and not have changed a single aspect of my outfit. The muscle band tank, white chucks, and a sporty backpack looks just as great together and not awkward like most would foresee. What I enjoyed most about Look #2 was the natural Parisian aesthetic that still was completely in sync with the city girl sense. I feel it's also important to mention that I purchased all of these pieces, with exception of the sunglasses, for under $30.

Nomadic Urbanite

This past Monday, Kayci and I took advantage of our day off and ventured through the city in pursuit of new and impressive scenery to compliment our lookbook attire. Another beautiful day took us on an adventure through Northern Central Park and around town in Upper Manhattan. It's funny how you can get lost in the city and be completely content with your state of detachment. For one thing, neither of us had any idea how enormous Central Park was! We were in the Northern end, where the tourists cease to exist and the inhabitants of the city are taking their daily walks and lunch breaks. It was almost relaxing- as hard as that may be to believe in "the city that never sleeps."

Next, we moved on into the city, which was surprisingly relaxed as well. The Upper East Side consists mostly of New York civilian living, where the busy busy New Yorkers take a break at night and go home to their apartments. It is here that I can see myself living in the future- a fragmented part of New York City life that isn't as busy and hectic as it always seems.

Anyway, moving on to the fashion portion of this post- the reason my whole life seems to have any meaning anymore... My outfit plays on the idea of a headstrong city-dweller... I guess I may not be playing a role anymore; this outfit completely encompasses my current role in the city. I try to act and dress like a professional who knows what they're doing and where they're going but in reality... I'm a tourist in disguise.

I hope that my blog viewers see this as a real "Pantone pop" of color. I may not wear a lot of color, but I find that there is beauty in that simplicity. I like to keep my outfits rather simple and let the scenery and my surroundings do the talking. Not everything fashionable and fun is loud and in your face. Sometimes the most interesting elements are subdued and in the background.

Made in Manhattan

We’re baaaaaaaack! As some of you may know, the two of us NotSoBGC fashion bloggers have been dreaming of acquiring a summer internship in NYC. Thanks to lots of hard work and endless applications, we are here- amongst many other VCU fashion majors- following our dreams! Take a look at our very first NYC blog post for a better look at our life here!

We arrived in New York City on Saturday, May 30th and have been overwhelmed ever since. Kayci is currently working at the HATCh showroom in Soho, and Ali at the fashion forecasting company Fashion Snoops in Midtown. We’d both like to give all of our readers a disclaimer: NYC life is not as glamorous as you picture at first!! We’ve experienced the VIP treatment and the typical hey-you’re-pretty-here’s-a-free-brownie, but also the hectic dash to the train station and wrong turns underground on the subway. This lifestyle is a bit of an adjustment and culture shock, but we both agree we could get used to this.

We decided to do our very first post on the rooftop of Kayci and Taylor Brunson’s apartment building on Central Park West in the Upper East Side. The view of the city was breathtaking- and it’s even better at night. For this lookbook’s outfits we chose an upscale casual look, in which we paired button-down shirts and pointed-toe heels with distressed denim and shorts for a more laid back and girly feel. The look is unexpected; it gives off an air of casual sophistication. We also love the idea of pairing gold accessories and contrasting stripes. The more outrageous elements to your outfit- the better!

To conclude, we’d just like to give a special shoutout to everyone who has helped the two of us arrive here in NYC- whether it be our parents, relatives, professors, or even just those of you who take the time to read this post! It is because of you all that we can follow our dreams and pursue the lifestyle that was “Made in Manhattan.”

A Not So BGC Christmas

The next few days will be nothing less than chaotic for the Not So BGC ladies. We have Christmas parties to attend, last minute gifts to purchase, and most importantly outfits to plan for the coming New Year! We are both thrilled to be back in Virginia Beach and ready to enjoy the Holiday season with our families.

We made a decision that our lovely followers would benefit a little more from a Christmas playlist rather than a lookbook this time around. But, don't fret, we will give our style insight through our upcoming lookbook right before its time for you to attend that glamorous New Year's Eve party.

This playlist includes traditional holiday sing-a-longs by various artists from many music genres. There is something here for everyone whether their musical preference is Pop or Alternative. So what are you waiting for? Plug in your phone to the closest speaker, gather around the tree with your loved ones, and rock out to our favorite Christmas tunes Not So BGC style.

Opposites Attract

Photographed by Antwon Steer

We're back, guys! Notice anything different? A lot of things have changed with the Not So Billionaire Girls Club- including our hair colors! We're back with new and interesting ideas that we're excited to share.

We have made it through the Fall season with straight As and lots of cash in our pockets. We have both been saving up and looking for internships to send ourselves off to New York this summer for experience. For us, that means beefing up our resumes and focusing as much on the fashion industry as possible.

Throughout the semester, we have been monitoring fashion trends and runway shows to keep ourselves up to date. A brief summary of important classifications we've noticed includes: jumpsuits, calf-length skirts, maxi coats, 3/4 length sleeves, and matching separates. Notice any of these in our outfits? *wink wink*

So, with this in mind- and an American Apparel Groupon in our pockets- the two of us drove to Cary town and scoped out some cute ensembles for our shoot. We went with matching separates from American Apparel that we got for half off thanks to our Groupon!! American Apparel always has abundant amounts of basic, staple pieces that can be mixed and matched. The prices tend to be on a higher price range, but the occasional investment is well worth it.

We shot outside of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond in the frigid cold, and we were lucky to have a loyal photographer at our side- thanks Antwon! The museum had a modern, Parisian landscape that complemented our looks perfectly.

It feels good to finally get back on our feet and do a post. Now that the semester is over we plan to spend Winter break updating the blog and keeping in touch with you all. We look forward to hearing your feedback!
